My Day-to-day life…

2013 Resolutions

People who know me, also know that 7 is my luck number and I do everything on 7th, whether changing a job or making resolutions. This year I am planning to break that tradition. I am going to have just 2 goals which will transform into multiple activities.

1. Get Fit(Weight under 190 lbs):  Have gained a few pounds in past few months hence have to refocus on health. How do I do this?

    • Run at least 4 marathon/half marathons
    • Exercise at least 4 days in a week.
    • Set goal of 10k steps a day
    • Eat healthy

2. Launch an app in market: Have been thinking of building some apps for a while. This was one of the goals in 2012 but time flew by and nothing happened. 2013 will be the year to focus and deliver on this goal. Not sure what app or what I will do but have to do something. Smile Need to go attend startup weekend I think. Smile Need to find and spend more time on writing code for sure.

Additionally I have to spend more time with family, continue doing great at work and read more but that is a given. Smile

Reflection on 2012

2012 was an amazing year for me. 2012 was the year I got to best health in my life.  Additionally

  1. Fitness: I became a Triathlete by completing Lavaman in Hawaii and a Marathoner by finishing Chicago Marathon
  2. Work: I had changed roles end of 2011 and shipped entertainment service for Xbox 360, Windows 8 and Windows Phone in 2012
  3. Charity: Raised roughly 10k for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to find cure for blood cancers.

Fitness: 2012 started with practicing for Lavaman. It was hectic few months of training for swim, bike and run. Run was easy, bike was fun and swim was scary. Smile I freaked out just before the event but was able to still finish. Next I trained for Chicago marathon which as amazing experience.

Work: I changed jobs and joined Xbox end of 2011. Had tons of fun and enjoyed every day of 2012 working in Xbox team. It was an amazing experience to ship entertainment (Video and Music) services that power all Windows and Xbox devices. Next time you switch on your Xbox or Windows device and see popular stuff that is all developed by our team.

Good Bye 2011–Year that changed me…

When I started this year I would never have imagined this will be the year that will bring sooo many changes in my life. Smile 2010 was huge as it brought 2 angels in our lives but 2011 changed my perspective to life… Smile

Health: I started this year with 7 resolutions and Theme: Adopt healthy life style. You can read the original post here. At the end of the year I can say I did pretty well. Lost 40lbs, my diabetes is gone and am fittest ever in my life. Smile

Work: I also changed my job and took a big step by moving to a new division still in Microsoft but it is like a new company and new job so I start from scratch again. Smile Should be a fun ride in 2012.

Giving: 2011 was the year I got involved in the community and started giving. I should correct that, my first donation ever was to Obama campaign in 2008. Smile But I got involved with Team and Training and started raising money for cancer cure supporting LLS. I raised around 4-5k this year with more than 1k from me. Which is huge for me. Smile I hope I can continue this and grow it in 2012.

Overall was a great year… Now review of my 2011 resolutions…

  1. Hit the Gym at least 3 times a week – PASS
  2. Read at least 1 book every 2 months – FAIL
  3. Write at least one blog post every week – PASS
  4. Write some code every week – FAIL
  5. Get credit card debt to 0 and payoff one more debt – FAIL
  6. Either run the Seattle marathon or bike from Seattle to Portland – PASS(Did run 2 half’s maybe I can count them as one)
  7. Start one weekly external activity with Swati – FAIL

Time to write my 2012 resolutions… Smile

It was an amazing day around 50 deg with constant rain. There was a huge hill around mile 9 and I was really tired but Team in Training folks had put some pictures of cancer survivors especially one kid was so inspiring in the picture that pain was gone in few seconds. Smile

Next, I have signed up for a Lavaman triathalon with team and training and taken up a task of raising $5k+. So please help me save lives, every dollar counts.. Smile Please give at http://bit.ly/sudsgive

Moving to Xbox Live!!!

This week was 10th anniversary of Xbox and it was my 1st week anniversary at Xbox engineering. Smile Yes you heard me right. I moved to Xbox live team and will be working on content services. Content services are web services that power your Xbox console. My area of focus will be content discovery and search. It is a fascinating space and am sure tons for me to learn. Smile Super excited to go from team that build cloud computing platform to team that is building one of the most saleable cloud application that powers millions of devices.

I enjoyed every bit of my time in Windows Azure Product Management especially working with the team to deliver Windows Azure Marketplace in 26 countries. Smile Will miss my team but am looking forward to my time in Xbox now. Smile
