Making a Difference: Running a Marathon

As per my 2011 resolution, last week I signed up to run for Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon. It is going to be tough for a person who has never run at all…. I just don’t like running… Smile I need all the support I can get to finish the run. Smile

I have joined Team in Training program to prepare for the run based on my friend Harish’s recommendation. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) is the world’s leading sports charity training program.

This is great because I get to train for marathon and raise funds to fight cancer at same time. I get to make a difference not just in my life but hopefully in lives of others. Smile

30th Jan 2011: Sunday Morning Run

Today I stepped out for my practice run around 8:00am in the morning. It was cold and my body was aching from yesterday’s practice. It was tough… I could hardly run for 10-15minutes and then had to switch to walking… Need a lot of practice.. Body is just not fit enough…

First Practice Run!!!

Today was our first practice run. It was 30minutes at Sand Point, Magnuson Park in Seattle. Running on thread mill is no comparison to running on trails. I had earlier claimed I ran 30min at a stretch that was actually on thread mill. Today I could not run more than 20min. I had to walk my remaining 10minutes.. Good part is I finished my 30min practice run without giving up. Smile My whole body has been paining whole day.. I need a lot of work to do..

Practice location: Sand Point, Magnuson Park

Team in Training Kickoff Meeting

I was suppose to return from Austria tomorrow but luckily I was able to come a day early. Today was our kickoff event of Team in Training event. I was completely jet lagged but still made it to the event. Was late by few minutes but got majority of the meeting. Some of the honor members shared their stories of fighting blood cancer. It is amazing what they have to go through…

I realized how lucky I am.. I hope I can make a difference and do my part in finding the cure…

Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

On first jan I sat down to write my resolution and there was only one thought in my mind, this year has to be different. This year I want to make a difference, difference in my life and lives of others around me. Therefore I decided to run a marathon and raise money to find cure for blood cancer. Goal was to live healthy life and help others to live healthy. :) Trust me I have never ran 2 miles and marathon is going to be loooong and I need all the support I can get.

I’m training to participate in Seattle Rock and roll marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line – a cure!

Please make a donation to help advance LLS’s mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

It all began with 2011 Resolutions!!!

I wrote my 2011 resolutions few weeks back on my main blog(http://sudsblog.com/?p=738). One of the resolutions was to either run Seattle Marathon or Seattle to Portland bike. I finalized decided to run the marathon. I also joined Team in Training to train for the marathon. Team in training raises awareness about Leukemia & Lymphoma and raises funds for it.

This was great as I was going to do 2 things which I had never attempted in life run a marathon and raise money for good cause. In past few days I have been really moved by some of the stories of survivors of blood cancer. I hope the cause I have taken up will continue to be part of my life for a long run. Smile

2011 Resolutions

I think 2011 is the most important year in my life. How I live 2011 will define how I live my life from here on. In past I have defined annual goals which are great but you loose track of them even before Jan is over. Hence this year I will try to do something different. Smile Following are my resolutions for 2011

Theme: Adopt healthy life style

  1. Hit the Gym at least 3 times a week
  2. Read at least 1 book every 2 months
  3. Write at least one blog post every week
  4. Write some code every week
  5. Get credit card debt to 0 and payoff one more debt
  6. Either run the Seattle marathon or bike from Seattle to Portland
  7. Start one weekly external activity with Swati

How can you help? Next time you see me ask me one of the following

  1. How many times have you been to the gym?
  2. When was the last time you hit the gym?
  3. What are you reading?
  4. What was your last blog post about?
  5. What app are you building?
  6. Have you decided whether you are runner or biker?
  7. Do you need number for debt consolidator?

This is a live post and I will make sure this is updated if I change my plans. Smile
